  • Political, tobacco, alcohol, firearms and weapons ads are not accepted in Ruralite. Neither are competitive-product ads—such as telecommunications, oil, natural gas or energy—and questionable-product ads.
  • Final acceptance or rejection of an advertisement will be determined by the president/CEO.
  • Ruralite reserves the right to place ''paid advertisement'' with copy that, in the editor’s opinion, resembles editorial matter.
  • Positioning is at the discretion of Ruralite. Advertisers' requests will be followed to the extent practical, within regular makeup limitations and policies.

Display Advertising Policy

Ruralite reserves the right to reject any display ad it considers to be inappropriate for its readership.

  1. Any advertisement that is determined to be in bad taste or unsuitable will not be accepted for publication. This includes, but is not limited to, advertising that deals with sexually explicit subjects and highly controversial issues.
  2. Political advertisements of any kind will not be accepted for publication in Ruralite magazine.
  3. Advertisements featuring cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco or other tobacco products will not be accepted for publication. Likewise, advertising of liquor or alcoholic beverages will not be accepted for publication in Ruralite magazine; this includes ads offering equipment or instructions for making alcoholic beverages.
  4. Advertisements featuring handguns or other concealable firearms will not be accepted for publication unless the weapons are strictly intended for hunting purposes, have been rendered permanently inoperable, or are collectable-type weapons, such as commemorative or special issues. Such advertisements will be accepted from federally licensed firearms dealers or manufacturers only. Advertisements featuring rifles or shotguns will be accepted for publication, as long as the advertising and sale of such weapons do not violate federal or state law.
  5. Advertisements featuring products that might be in competition with a product or products offered by Ruralite member utilities will not be accepted for publication. This exclusion does not apply to advertising appearing on a utility’s own local pages.
  6. Advertisements featuring products of questionable safety or value will not be accepted for publication, as determined by the CEO.
  7. When it is unclear whether an advertisement falls into any of the categories listed above, the acceptance or rejection of an advertisement will be determined by the CEO.
  8. The advertising rate card will be updated annually, and will reflect market rates and subscription levels.
